finding Jesus

My relationship with God through Jesus is the core of who I am – but what does that mean exactly? Let me share what it means to be born again.

God loves you
God loves you so much that He sent His only Son – Jesus – into this world so that everyone who believes in Him can have eternal life (John 3:16)
But there is a problem:
Sin. The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned (Rom 3:23) and that we all fall short of the glory of God. God is perfect and holy and our sins separate us from God. The penalty for our sin is death.

The Good News
God sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus is the Son of God – He was sent to earth and lived a perfect, sinless life. Then, even though He was sinless, He died on the cross to pay for our sins. So the penalty has been paid! But we must acknowledge and accept the sacrifice in order to be restored to God.

Never alone
When Jesus rose from the dead – he conquered death. So now all those who believe in Him can have eternal life. When Jesus went back to sit at the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), He sent the Holy Spirit to live within all those who believe. God wants to live within us through the Holy Spirit. We have the opportunity to be in a close, daily relationship with God, through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Being born-again (John 3)
We can exchange our old, sinful life for a new life in Jesus Christ. If we acknowledge our sinful life, accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and invite the Holy Spirit to come live within us and be Lord of our life – then we become a new creation, we inherit eternal life and can live in relationship with God. He will then work with you to help you become more and more like Jesus (getting rid of that old sinful life and living more and more fully in your new life in Christ).

Are you ready?
If you are ready to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you can do that by praying a prayer like this:

Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God and that you came to die on the cross for my sins. I confess that I have sinned against you and others and I ask you to forgive me of my sins and make me a new creation in you. I pray that you will fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I might become more and more like you, Jesus. I choose to believe and trust in you to be Lord of my life. I thank you for saving me from my sins and ask for your help to serve and follow you the rest of my life.

Praying a prayer like that is not a one-time thing – it is the beginning of a new journey – a journey of becoming more and more like Jesus and allowing God to be in control of your life. Go here to find some help in getting started in your walk with God.

Did you pray? I’d love for you to let me know! sarah {at} becomingministries [dot] org
