searching for Jesus, online

I learned about a website last year and found it absolutely fascinating. A group called Global Media Outreach learned that every single day, two million people from all over the world were searching for God – by typing it into Google.

So GMO put together hundreds of websites in different languages so that when people searched for Jesus, they could discover the gospel. Amazing right?

Okay – so they also have a website that is an interactive world map that shows you – in real time – where the people are located that are searching for and deciding to follow Jesus.

Great Commission 2020

What this showed me was that people everywhere really are looking for God. Maybe they aren’t walking up to a neighbor and asking “What’s the deal with Jesus?” or “How do I begin to follow God?” But in the privacy of their homes and a search engine, their inner hearts and longings are revealed.

Inspired? I was! Here’s what you can do to support this movement.

Pray! Obviously, prayer is not to be underestimated.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16

Join! You can even sign up to be an online missionary. When a seeker responds at one of GMO’s websites, they are connected with an online missionary who interacts with the person through e-mail to help get them going in the right spiritual direction. They offer online training to help you and you can decide how many people you want to help each month.

Be a part of the Great Commission. From your own home!

  1. I’m going to check into this. I LOVE sharing Jesus. It’s my calling. My husband and I (He was just by boyfriend back then) used pick up kids and take them to church back in high school. Not nice kids. Girls who had reputations, etc. Those were the kids I alway hung with but never followed. I hated hanging the “good kids” being in the Bible Belt, they all went to the local church but were such mean back stabbers. I liked the bad girls b/c they were upfront about what they were and did. They were real. God’s called me to be real as a Christian…an open book. I didn’t stop having problems b/c I accepted Him and pretending that’s the case will never win anyone. It’s struggling in front of others, but with God taking care of me, strengthening me that will win people over. Soooo cool. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I understand where you’re coming from and glad you’re interested in checking out GMO. It’s kind of amazing what they do!
